Upack the SquirrelMail archive (perhaps squirrelmail-1.4.5.tar.gz) into the web directory on your webserver/mailserver. This will create a squirrelmail directory which you may wish to rename - perhaps to ‘email’ or something.

Install Fetchmail from the rpm in
Mandrake Control Center>Software Management>Install Software
and also install fetchmailconf
edit the file:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/fetchmail
changing the line
daemon fetchmail -d ${FETCHMAIL_POLL:-180} -f /etc/fetchmailrc
to
daemon fetchmail -d ${FETCHMAIL_POLL:-30} -f /etc/fetchmailrc
where 180 and 30 are the polling interval in seconds - basically you can set how often Fetchmail checks (and fetches mail from) the mail servers.
